Doctor Who Christmas Countdown

18 December, 2007

08.jpgThe countdown to Christmas has begun and for all us Doctor Who fans out there the countdown is also underway for the next Christmas special. This year the Doctor is joined by the lovely Kylie Minogue who plays a waitress on board the Titanic. Not the old Titanic but a space cruiser with the same name. Kylie’s character is called Astrid, which coincidentally is an anagram of Tardis.

The BBC, as usual, have been giving sneak peaks and releasing trailers for the up coming Christmas day special on the Doctor Who official website. They’ve also released a quite a few still photos and wallpapers from the show which to some extent spoils the suprise a little.

dwm390.jpgI know a man of my age shouldn’t really be interested in a kids programme like this, but I like the show for it’s pure escapism and for the fact that the people involved in making the show are having so much fun with it. It’s a show that’s now being made by the original fans who grew up watching the likes of Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy stut around on screen blowing up Daleks and Cybermen alike. Kylie herself said she had a blast making the special and posing with the Daleks for the Doctor Who mag special.

The joy these guys are experiencing in making the show really shines through and this makes the show a pleasure to watch, and I for one will be glued to my TV screen at 6.50pm on Christmas day avec Champagne in hand.

Dr Who a kids’ programme? Surely not. It’s that rare thing, a programme that appeals to everyone. (A bit like David Beckham, see previous post)

Mike Says:- Does that include the newest Beckham picture?
