A mother of 5 who married another woman while still being married to her husband has been given a suspended prison sentence.

The woman, from Shewsbury, UK. pleaded guilty to breaching the the 2004 Civil Partnerships Act, which in the UK allows same sex couples to marry.

She admitted claiming to be single to enter into the civil union early in 2006. The Judge residing over the case said her offense was one of “cruelty & deception”.

The woman initially claimed she did not understand the seriousness of the partnership ceremony and claimed to have thought it was a “blessing” on her friendship with the un-named “other woman”.

After 3 months the women had split and she had returned to her husband. She is now expecting her 6th child.

In her defense her lawyer claimed that the woman had “limited acumen and had acted naively”.

The woman was given a suspended 8 month prison sentence for 2 years. The woman was also ordered to do 100 hours unpaid community service.
